CABARRUS, ROWAN and STANLY COUNTY Farm Bureaus provided drinks and snacks at the State Beekeepers Association meeting, held July 8-10 in China Grove. They also provided bags for handouts at the event and gave away freebies.
CARTERET COUNTY Farm Bureau’s Board of Directors had a visit from Joseph Mauro at their July meeting. Mauro was there to express his appreciation for getting to attend the 2010 IFAL conference June 13-19 at N.C. State. Mauro told board members that attending IFAL gave him an interest in food science and he plans to pursue that subject in college.
DUPLIN COUNTY Farm Bureau recently presented county scholarships to two students, Aaron Smith and Kyle Herring.  Also at the Duplin County Farm Bureau board meeting, Duplin County Cooperative Extension brought guests from Duplin County 4-H. Guests were Lauren Hardin, who gave a presentation on “Say Aah to Oral Hygiene,” and OShe’ Pittman, who gave a speech on “Extreme Makeovers.”
FRANKLIN COUNTY Farm Bureau conducted a project where they presented 400 placemats to several restaurants in Louisburg in May.
GASTON COUNTY Farm Bureau President Bill Craig and his wife Wilma were honored at an event  May 22 to recognize their friendship and support of the Gaston County Museum of Art and History. In addition to being active Farm Bureau members, the Craigs are active in preserving Gaston County history. Their many contributions to Gaston County include playing an instrumental role in bringing telephone service to their then-rural area.
GASTON COUNTY Farm Bureau Member Ervin Lineberger hosted U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan and staff for a tour of his Killdeer Farm, a blackberry and grape operation. Hagan visited the farm as part of her work on a food safety bill. She also looked over Lineberger’s safety guidelines and other record-keeping.
GREENE COUNTY" hspace="5" vspace="5" width="165" height="165" align="left"/>GREENE COUNTY Farm Bureau helped sponsor the Greene Central High School FFA Land Judging team, which won the National Southeast Region and finished fourth nationally out of more than 100 teams from across the U.S. May 6 at the 59th National Land and Range Judging Contest in Oklahoma City, Okla.
GUILFORD COUNTY Farm Bureau sponsored a Farm Safety Day July 17 in Julian at the Homeland Creamery, which is owned and operated by Chris and Jayne and David and Terry Bowman and has been in the Bowman family since the 1930s. The event included presentations on machinery safety, pesticide safety, electrical safety, ATV safety, livestock safety, pond safety and first aid.
HALIFAX COUNTY Farm Bureau recently honored James E. (Preacher) White, who served on the county board for 55 years. County President Ray Garner presented White with a plaque to thank him for his years of service.
JOHNSTON COUNTY Farm Bureau Women’s Committee Members Pat Barbour, who is also a member of the State Women’s Committee, and Emily Vinson had a booth at the FFA Ag Awareness Day at Princeton Elementary School. They organized a source relay game, where more than 850 students were given pictures and had to decide the pictured item’s source—farm, factory, store or natural resource. More than 50 FFA students from Princeton High School put on the Ag Awareness Day.
PERQUIMANS COUNTY Farm Bureau Women’s Committee put on a Fatal Vision program for 200 juniors and seniors at Perquimans County High School. The Women’s Committee showed a video called “Young Drivers—The High Risk Years” and students used fatal vision goggles.
PITT COUNTY Farm Bureau Women’s Committee held a Car Seat Safety Check May 25 at St. James United Methodist Church. Women’s Committee members and others checked approximately 40 car seats and Greenville police officers and firefighters gave children car seat safety stickers. The Women’s Committee also gave out materials on car seat safety and safety coloring books.
ROCKINGHAM COUNTY Farm Bureau recently put on a Kids Safety Day for fourth-graders from the Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Center. Among the topics covered were animal safety, sun safety, electric safety, gun and knife safety, personal awareness—drugs, water safety and more. K-9 officers, Duke Energy, a police detective and other guests helped with the program.
ROCKINGHAM COUNTY Farm Bureau has been in the news lately. The Greensboro News & Record published an article about the Rockingham County Red Cross Disaster Action Team and included a picture and mention of the contributions of Farm Bureau Members Frank and Leola Meador. Red Cross Disaster Teams are first on the scene to help victims when a tornado, hurricane or tsunami strikes, and they help with the immediate needs of the victims, like food, clothing and shelter. They also help set up emergency shelters when a natural disaster knocks out power to an area. Also, Rockingham County Farm Bureau supplied water, ice, hats for sun protection and funds for a 4-H program featured in a segment about Perry Graves, a “2 Those Who Care” honoree on Triad-area TV station WFMY.
